U.S. Chamber files amicus brief supporting Arkansas tort reforms
January 09, 2009
The U.S. Chamber urged the Arkansas Supreme Court to uphold as constitutional the recent joint and several liability, and collateral evidence reforms enacted by the Arkansas legislature. According to the Chamber's amicus brief, Arkansas law recognizes that the legislature has overlapping authority with the courts to develop tort law and that the reforms do not conflict with the Arkansas constitution. The Chamber also explained that the tort provisions foster a fair and just legal environment that is attractive to potential employers and taxpayers.
