To the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports H.R. 7776, the “Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2022,” which the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure reported out of committee in a bipartisan vote on May 18. Reauthorization of these programs is critical to economic growth and to meeting ambitious climate and infrastructure goals.
WRDA would ensure the viability of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works programs, including navigation, flood risk management, recreation, and associated environmental infrastructure. Passage of this bill would be an important step forward in implementing priorities passed in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (P.L. 117-58) and in providing critical economic and environmental benefits to the U.S.
Reauthorizing these programs prior to their September 30 expiration would provide the certainty of federal commitment needed to address vital water projects. It would also allow state, local, and private partners to move forward with needed planning and construction of smart, modern, resilient infrastructure to economically benefit both rural and urban areas.
The Chamber applauds the inclusion in this legislation of new project authorizations, as well as provisions to ensure sustainable, resilient infrastructure and improvements in water supply delivery.
