Dear Chairman Carper and Ranking Member Capito:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce supports the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2022. Reauthorization of America’s water resources programs is critical to economic growth and meeting our ambitious climate and infrastructure goals.
WRDA would ensure the viability of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Civil Works programs including navigation, flood risk management, recreation, and associated environmental infrastructure. Passage of this bill is important to support implementation of the priorities passed in H.R. 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and to provide critical economic and environmental benefits to the United States.
Reauthorizing these programs prior to their September 30 expiration date would provide federal commitments for much needed water projects. It would also allow state, local, and private partners to move forward with needed planning and construction of smart, modern, resilient infrastructure that would ensure economic benefits to both rural and urban regions of the United States.
The Chamber applauds the inclusion of new project authorizations, as well as provisions to ensure sustainable, resilient infrastructure and improvements in water supply delivery.
We urge the Committee to move promptly to ensure timely action on these critical issues.
Sincerely,
Neil L. Bradley
Executive Vice President, Chief Policy Officer,
and Head of Strategic Advocacy
U.S. Chamber of Commerce
