In August, for the most part, our busy nation’s capital goes quiet as lawmakers head home for the late summer recess.
Not the case for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
Over the last month, we have been leading the charge on the trade front, working closely with our federation of state and local chamber partners across the country to rally support for the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and make the case directly to members of Congress. During the August congressional recess, our team participated in more than 140 events and met with nearly 100 lawmakers and/or their staff in towns across the country. In every forum, the message was clear: The time to pass USMCA is now.
From California to North Carolina, support for passage of this critical trade deal is growing louder and louder. USMCA will ensure that U.S. manufacturers, farmers, and service providers can continue to do business with our North American neighbors. To put it simply, you can’t be pro-business and anti-USMCA. And you can’t be pro-jobs and anti-USMCA.
We recognize passage of USMCA has only one path forward: bipartisan cooperation. We are actively working to bridge the partisan divide to pass USMCA and bring economic security to American businesses.
In the slideshow above, you’ll find a snapshot of our efforts to bring lawmakers to a yes on this critical vote.
