Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced its endorsement of Derek Merrin to represent Ohio’s Ninth Congressional District. The U.S. Chamber endorses candidates for federal office who will stand up for free enterprise, including by vigorously advocating for public policy solutions that will spur economic growth, support jobs, and promote businesses of all sizes’ ability to continue to innovate and invest in America.

"Derek Merrin is a proven leader who has fought and won for Ohioans in his work to cut taxes, simplify the tax code, and push back on regulatory red tape as chairman of the House Ways and Means committee in the state legislature," said Kevin Courtois, Vice President of the Chamber's Great Lakes Region. "Job creators, entrepreneurs, and the American workforce would benefit greatly with Derek Merrin in the U.S. House. We are proud to support his candidacy."

“As a state legislator, I have had a laser focus on supporting Ohio businesses by lowering their tax burden and reducing regulations,” said Merrin. “I'm thankful to have the support of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in my efforts to get the heavy weight of D.C. off the backs of small businesses, so more entrepreneurs can prosper. Northwest Ohio business owners deserve better than the disdain the current administration has shown them with their anti-business policies. I look forward to working with the Chamber of Commerce to make America once again the best nation in the world to conduct business!”

“We support the U.S. Chamber’s thorough endorsement process for Congressional candidates in Ohio’s 2024 primary election,” said Ohio Chamber President and CEO Steve Stivers. “They endorsed Derek Merrin because, in his four terms as a state representative, he has shown his dedication to reducing taxes, decreasing healthcare costs, and promoting other policies at the state level that ensure Ohio’s economic strength. We appreciate the U.S. Chamber’s efforts toward electing pro-business candidates in Ohio.”
