TO THE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES SENATE:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce supports the nomination of John Pallasch to be the Assistant Secretary of the Employment Training Administration (ETA) at the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). ETA is one of the most important agencies within DOL, administering federal job training programs, overseeing apprenticeships, delivering funding support for communities suffering natural disasters or significant job dislocations, and providing foreign labor certifications to help businesses meet their employment needs, among other essential programs.
However, ETA has been without a confirmed Assistant Secretary since January 2017, even though Mr. Pallasch was first nominated in April 2018. It is long past time to confirm this nominee.
Mr. Pallasch is well qualified to lead ETA. He has served as the Executive Director of the Office of Employment and Training within the Commonwealth of Kentucky’s Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. In this capacity he directed the state’s network of Career Centers and administered hundreds of millions of dollars in training grants. He also served for more than seven years at DOL during the administration of President George W. Bush.
The Chamber urges the Senate to expeditiously confirm Mr. Pallasch to be the Assistant Secretary of ETA.
Sincerely:
Neil L. Bradley
