WASHINGTON, D.C.- U.S. Chamber of Commerce President Suzanne P. Clark today released the following statement regarding the Food and Drug Administration decision to grant an Emergency Use Authorization for Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine:
“Today, the United States turns a corner in the fight against the pandemic. From the beginning, the business community has harnessed its innovation and ingenuity to deliver solutions to eradicate the virus and end the global pandemic. The development and delivery of a safe and effective vaccine at unprecedented speed is an historic example of the power of private industry to change the world for the better.
“This milestone was achieved as a result of America’s long-standing leadership in innovative research and development, supported by our free-market system and dedication to intellectual property. We applaud the private sector companies, the hospitals and academic institutions, and the government leaders who collaborated to make this medical achievement possible. Together, these innovators have proved the value of the U.S. innovative ecosystem.
“While we recognize that this is the first step in a long process, we should all feel encouraged and optimistic that brighter, healthier, more prosperous days lie ahead.”
