ROME — Ahead of the B7 Business Summit, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Chairman and NuScale Power LLC CEO John Hopkins addressed the International Workshop on Resource Efficiency hosted by the Global Business Coalition (GBC) and the Italian Business Federation Confindustria. Hopkins highlighted the importance of private sector innovation and economic growth in advancing global resource efficiency.
“Resource efficiency is not about doing less – it’s about doing more with less,” said Hopkins. “The best thing business can do to promote resource efficiency is what it has always done: innovate and grow. Free market forces are leading us toward resource efficiency, because spending less on materials, wasting fewer resources, and operating more efficiently are smart business practices. The more efficient we become with our resources, the more productive we can be.”
The workshop featured Confindustria President Vincenzo Boccia, World Bank Chief Executive Officer Kristalina Georgiev, Italian Minister for Environment Gian Luca Galletti, German Federal Minister of Environment Barbara Hendricks, and BusinessEurope President Emma Marcegaglia, among others.
The B7 Business Summit is a gathering of the leading business organizations of each of the G7 nations, the world’s seven leading advanced economies. Hopkins and the U.S. Chamber helped develop the International Workshop on Resource Efficiency along with other B7 leaders to inform G7 and G20 policy-makers of the forward trends within industries to support the development of an integrated international policy framework that benefits from good practices and global business experiences toward promoting resource efficiency.
The GBC is a coalition of national business associations from major world economies that works to promote international policy cooperation and advocate on behalf of more than 6.8 million small, medium and large-scale companies. The U.S. Chamber represents American businesses within the GBC, which is active in fifteen world capitals.
