WASHINGTON, D.C.— U.S. Chamber of Commerce Center for Global Regulatory Cooperation (GRC) Vice President Sean Heather today released the following statement after the Trump administration announced its intent to withdraw from the Universal Postal Union (UPU) treaty:
“The Universal Postal Union system of terminal dues is exploited by a handful of countries. American companies should not pay more for package delivery within the United States, than what the U.S. Postal Service collects to deliver packages from overseas. Negotiating a fair deal on a bilateral basis that reflects the costs to deliver packages is exactly what is needed. The Chamber looks forward to supporting these bilateral negotiations.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
