WASHINGTON, D.C.– Michael Carney, Senior Vice President, Emerging Issues, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation released the following statement today following President Biden’s remarks about the CDC new mask guidance.

“The announcement of new guidance on masking for those who are fully vaccinated shows the benefits of vaccination and the importance of relying on science in our response to the pandemic.

“Our continued recovery is predicated on our ability to keep COVID-19 at bay through mass vaccination and continued adherence to common-sense public health measures that reduce the spread of the virus while large portions of the U.S. population remain at risk of infection.

“Remaining vigilant and following CDC recommendations is the path back to public and economic health. But it also requires a continued commitment to vaccination, masks and other preventive measures for us to prevent future surges. With this in mind, we urge the Transportation Security Administration to extend the mask mandate for travelers that is set to expire in just a few weeks.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is committed to helping American businesses respond to the coronavirus so they can support their employees, customers, and communities and launched the Rally for Recovery Commitment (www.committorecovery.com), as the latest step in the Chamber’s ongoing and expansive efforts to ensure business leaders have the tools and resources they need to inform and protect their employees, communicate to their customers, support their communities, and get our country back to health.
