For Waggin’ Tails Pet Ranch president and founder Denise Einkauf, pet care is more than a job; it’s a calling. When spring break rolls around in Fulshear, Texas, Waggin’ Tails Pet Ranch is the ultimate pet destination, cultivating a home away from home since 2005.
As families hit the road for spring break, small businesses like Denise’s are positively impacted by an uptick in the busy season travel.
An all-inclusive, family-owned, full-service pet resort with two locations west of Houston, Waggin’ Tails Pet Ranch is ensuring all family members—even our furry friends—get to enjoy a fun, relaxing, and memorable spring break getaway.
Spring break is brought to you by businesses like Waggin' Tails, who provide peace of mind for families across the country as they plan memorable experiences with loved ones this spring break.
Filling a Need in Her Community
A 2023 U.S. Chamber of Commerce America’s Top Small Business top-seven finalist, the pet resort was created by Einkauf after she recognized a need for more all-inclusive facilities in the pet industry.
Receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University, Einkauf created Waggin’ Tails Pet Ranch out of her pure love for animals. The pet resort is one of the first facilities to provide a day camp, grooming, boarding, and training.
“In the early 2000s, group play and dog parks weren’t very popular yet, and most [pet] boarding was offered at pet clinics,” said Einkauf. “I wanted to create a place that was all about the boarding.”
Serving Clients During the Busy Spring Break Travel Season
Waggin’ Tails Pet Ranch sits on a fifteen-acre ranch, with four-and-a-half acres fenced off for dogs, twenty-two play yards, a swimming pool, and a pond. During spring break, the pet resort experiences an uptick in business as families hit the road on vacation or plan a day out in the local area.
“Spring break is one of our extremely high travel times and we are reliant on travel for the boarding especially, but the day care as well,” said Einkauf. “When people are traveling, or taking day trips, they don’t want to leave their dogs in the house all day.”
The pet resort is experiencing one of the busiest spring breaks since the onset of COVID-19. According to Einkauf, the shop is averaging close to 215 dogs a night at one location and close to 100 dogs at another.
“We're keeping about 325 dogs in our care and the whole deal is you still have to be on your A-game when it gets busier,” she said. “It doesn't matter if we get busier; every pet is treated like a family member and receives the same care.”
Einkauf and her staff are devoted to creating safe, comfortable, and vibrant environments for each pet that steps into their resort.
“My staff will even take dogs home if we don’t have any spots,” said Einkauf. “We will always make more room; it’s important to us and our community.”
Through their nurturing, playful, and home-like environment, Waggin’ Tails Pet Ranch allows pets to feel like they’re on vacation, too.
