To the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022, which would enhance America’s global competitiveness and expand American semiconductor manufacturing. The Chamber will consider including votes on this bill in our annual How They Voted scorecard.
Semiconductors are essential to nearly every sector of the economy, including aerospace, automobiles, communications, clean energy, information technology, and medical devices. Unfortunately, demand for semiconductors has outstripped supply, partly due to shifts arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. The global chip shortage has led to lost growth and jobs, and underscores the need for increased domestic manufacturing capacity.
Approval of the CHIPS and Science Act would help meet this long-term challenge by incentivizing semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing in the United States, and would strengthen the U.S. economy, national security, and supply chain resilience.
We urge you to swiftly enact this important legislation.
Sincerely,
Jack Howard
