The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the nomination of Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield to be Ambassador of the United States to the United Nations (UN). She is a highly-qualified nominee and, from the perspective of the U.S. business community, is well prepared to tackle the foreign policy challenges facing the United States.
Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s prior service as Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Director General of the U.S. Foreign Service, and U.S. Ambassador to Liberia represents an invaluable body of experience upon which she can draw in representing U.S. interests before the UN. She possesses a unique understanding of the role that the business community plays in supporting U.S. foreign policy goals, as she demonstrated during her service on the board of the Chamber’s U.S.-Africa Business Center.
The work of the U.S. Mission to the UN is important to national security, the advancement of American values around the globe, and U.S. international economic and trade interests. The diplomats who direct the Mission’s work play an indispensable role helping our partners around the world build stronger political, legal, and economic systems. This in turn helps these nations to become more reliable trading partners, fostering their prosperity and our own. And, Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield’s well-established ability to build coalitions and advance U.S. multilateral interests perfectly prepares her for this significant assignment.
