U.S. Chamber of Commerce Senior Vice President for Cyber, Intelligence, and Security Policy Christopher D. Roberti issued the following statement today regarding the Department of Commerce’s proposed rule “Securing the Information and Communications Technology and Services Supply Chain.”
“The Chamber shares the Administration’s commitment to protecting the supply chain against national security risks. However, the government should not have unlimited authority to intervene in commercial transactions and any process should be accountable, transparent, and coordinated. We urge the Department of Commerce to adjust the ICTS Supply Chain proposed rule and ensure it properly provides accountability, due process protections, and accounts for ongoing partnerships between U.S. business and the federal government; otherwise it may result in significant harm to the U.S. economy, businesses and consumers without a corresponding national security benefit.”
The Chamber submitted comments today to the U.S. Department of Commerce, which charts a constructive path that could serve the interests of both industry and the administration. The Chamber also organized a joint set of comments signed by over 30 organizations who are ensuring that the government receives the best input to guide this process.
